Floriography is a means of artistic, poetic, emotional, or literary communication through the use of or arrangement of flowers. Stemming back thousands of years, this mysterious method of sending and receiving cryptic messages reached a pinnacle of popularity in the Victorian era. The meanings have changed throughout the years, but we found our inspiration for this collection in Kate Greenway’s book Language of Flowers, published in 1884.

VERNAL GRASS (meaning poor but happy) is one of eight flowers/plants we chose for our new collection Floriography: the language of flowers. We created a variegated and coordinating semi-solid colourway for each plant, which are both available on 100g and 25g skeins. Make sure you're selecting the right style (semi solid vs solid) and skein size (100g vs 25g) within the listing.

This collection features a small batch of yarn made from the wool of local North Country Cheviot flock here in the Annapolis Valley (Nova Scotia). non-superwash (untreated) wool. Listing price is per skein.

YARN

  • 100% Nova Scotian North Country Cheviot
  • 100g fingering weight skein: 400 yds | 365 m
  • 25g fingering weight skein: 100 yds | 91 m

    FIBRE
North Country Cheviot is a down-like wool that resists felting. It's in the mid-range when it comes to coarseness, which makes it perfect for using on harder wearing items like socks and mittens - perfect for cozy season.

    PROCESS
All Annapolis Fibre Co yarn begins as raw fleece from Nova Scotian sheep, which is carded, spun and dyed by us right here in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. Aside from owning and shearing the sheep ourselves, we are creating each skein from start to finish.

    CARE
All items made with untreated (non-superwash) wool should be hand washed in cold water, and laid flat to dry. Spot cleaning will help prolong the life of your knitwear!
